Fraser Island, Easter and the 4x4 trails..

We went to Fraser Island this Easter Weekend (Fraser is the worlds largest sand Island). Had a great time, but got washed out by the rain and came home a day early. Landed on the Island by barge from Rainbow beach (about a 10 minute trip) and set off up 75 mile beach (which is exactly that) to our camp site called Dundabura about 80km's away. Speed limit on the beach is 80km/hr and you can go a lot faster believe me, except you have to watch out for the wash out's (little streams that empty into the sea, or else you can rip your suspension out easily). They also land planes on the beach and we had to didge a few of them coming in to land and take off.

Set up camp and got ourselves organised. The Kriel's and ourselves had identical tents and we took a kitchen tent as well. Much fun and laughter was had. We also went on a 4x4 trip through the centre of the Island to Lake McKenzie which is fantastic and has such clear water - unbelievable, see photo above.

Could not stop thinking about Stuart Chad when we were doing the rough tracks. The Prado performed very well and so did Leon's Hyundai Tuscon, only had difficulty at on spot.

Saw some Dingo's - they look friendly enough, but have been known to kill the odd person, so they are a serious no-go area if you see them (we saw two). Caught a big sand shark and a number of "dart's", Andrew caught a ray and Jamie a "flathead". We will be back, but may give the camping a skip if we can rent a beach cottage (Jan would be very much happier that way..
