Jan, Emma and I went to do our tests yesterday in Brisbane, and all passed (Jan with 100%), Emma and I at 90%, but what a time consuming process it was. After been given the once over of Birth Certificates, Marriage Certificates, Passports, Visa's, Driver's licences, Medicare Cards to be vetted and scanned, we had a digital photo of us taken and were given a number and told to go knock on "the door" where some lady would let us in to do our tests.
It was kinda like the movies, where you see the skelm knock on a door and the little opening slides to one side, and you say..."Joe sent me".....and they silently let you inside...Then you punch your exam number into the PC and were told you had 45 Minutes to answer 20 questions (three are compulsory and you have to get them right or you fail)...Well, after 6 minutes I had completed my test and the screen was telling me I still had 39 minutes to go, and I wondered if I had missed something?? I had not, and so the process of getting results printed out, and then down a few floors to have all the previously mentioned items checked by another lady again, and payment of the $ 240 each, and we were out of there and on the way home I left the office at 12 and we got home at 4:30 - 4 and a half hours to do a 6 minute test....
So what happens now? They do police checks on us and barring us not being bad people, they will send us a letter in three months telling us IF we can become Australians. Assuming the answer is positive, we will then have to wait for "A CEREMONY". Finally at the ceremony, we will swear the oath of allegiance (swear on the Kangaroo) or something, and get a moerse certificate to say we are Stralians.
Then we will go through the whole process again (457 Visa, Permanent residence Visa, Citizenship) and apply for a passport !!!. Gosh all I can tell you is we have made 10 324 copies and had them certified as true copies of the original whatever, and made the guy at the Kodak shop a wealthy man (at The Gap Village shops)along the way. Phew...
