WORLD cricket's new South African top dogs have vowed to create an Australian-style dynasty and prevent Ricky Ponting's men taking back the No.1 crown.
As Australia plunged to No.4 in the world after its miserable Ashes loss, new kingpins South Africa were plotting to establish a bold decade of dominance.
They have pledged they will not slip from the top of cricket's new pecking order.
Australia had been officially or unofficially the world's No.1 Test side since Mark Taylor's team savoured an historic series win in the West Indies in 1995.
Now South Africa wants to become the new Australia.
"We would love to create that sort of aura and the sort of results that Australia had for so long," South African coach Mickey Arthur said.
My Comment: Brave words from South Africa. Mickey Arthur would do well to remember that when you go on record with such utterings, they come back to haunt you at some stage. Why not just accept that you are No 1 now and get on with it - you don't have to try and shout it from the roof tops so someone will take note of you. Cricketing people know exactly what the situation is in the test and one day rankings. Keep your head down as they say in cricket and everyone will be endeared to your efforts. In Australia they have the "tall poppy syndrome" and believe me when you want to go crowing about being the best, someone will come along and slap you down - the wheel turns full circle and sometimes very quickly.

Then what have the Aussies been for the last number of years - I guess its full circle for Australia - can't win the cricket, can't win the rugby and you'll all VERY sour now because of it..... Its good to support the winning side, esp. when you still live in the winning country....
The point I make is not that South Africa do not deserve to be No1, but that Mickey Arthur is being a bit silly talking about "world domination"...The Aussies are playing crap Rugby and Cricket at the moment, everyone agrees, but when you put yourself on a pedistal and say we are going to dominate for the next decade, you make yourself a target,- Australia has actually done it!!!
