Went to see the new Cape Town stadium in Greenpoint when I was there, and although the stadium is very impressive and I think will be great, (and by Ryan's account, even more impressive inside)I certainly hope that it does not turn out to be a very expensive white elephant for the city to bear. What I mean is, they stuffed up a good golf club to build it and knocked down the old and crumbling Greenpoint stadium, but they won't get any of the current soccer teams based in Cape Town to move there - they want to stay near their current base in Athlone and on the flats, and WP Rugby won't move from Newlands, so they have to fill the place more than on the odd occasion during the year to actually make it pay for itself. Oh well, I guess - time will be the telling thing. You can see it from everywhere in the city, out toward Tableview and so on, so if anything, it needs to be used and used well.
