The Perfect??Storm (a 25 year storm hits The Gap)

Well, The Gap was hit with the worst storm in 25 years last night at about 5pm, the heavens opened and the wind was over 100km/hr, and we were a bit scared that the big hoop pine outside our bedroom which is over 40foot high would come down. A few big branches did, in our garden, but missed the house thank goodness. Not so lucky, Jim Cohens neighbour, who now has a split house with a tree right through it!. Debbie and Leon were totally flooded out, their house resembling a muddy quagmire - so too Colleen and Brian, and also Lee and Derek. Thank goodness for insurance I say!. We still had power right through the whole thing, but about 65 000 houses are still without power in and around our suburb.
I went out to help Debbie and managed to get through and around the blown off roofs and trees and had to at one stage park the car and walk with Ian through School Road to find Jamie - who was at a friends house, climbing over massive trees across the road, and downed power lines - all very devastating I must say. Emma and James parked their cars under the concrete parking at Coles in the Gap for the storm, and glad they did too, because right where they park at the Fox's house two huge trees came down - they would have no cars left.

The pictures are of Payne Road and St Peters Chanel school at the end of Settlement road. Channel Seven on Mt Coot-tha was under 7 inches of water in their newsroom.

All in all, they say, the worst storm in 25 years, and i can believe it - now for the cleanup - all the SES crews are working flat out to help and Energex is trying to restore some power, but it will be days....
