Underage dance party erupts into brawl

More than 3,000 teenagers spewed out of a Sydney dance party on Wednesday night as a series of fights between rival gangs broke out inside the venue.
Partygoer Melissa, 17, said the fights involved a number of rival gangs from Sydney's southern and eastern suburbs.
"It started in one corner then there were fights here, and fights and fights and fights," she said outside the party.
"It just started with one and then everybody just started hitting each other."
Police who rushed to the After Dark under-18s event at the University of NSW, in Sydney's east, had to deal with 3,000 teenagers forced on to local streets when organisers shut the event down at about 8.20pm.
Police said fights started when some of the youths were refused entry to the party due to being intoxicated.
Officers from the Eastern Beaches and surrounding commands proceeded to move the youths from the area using buses and taxis.
Many of the young people remained in the area waiting for parents to pick them up.
A number of people were arrested for offences such as affray, breach of peace and failure to move on.
Nobody was seriously injured during the incident.
