Went for a ride on Saturday as usual with Jim Cohen and we did the river ride, followed by coffee at the Mt Cootha lookout. We then went along the top (up and down) the mountain, before coming down past the TV stations on a very twisty and windy decent. We were taking it slow (65.2 km/h), when my rear wheel decided to make a loud bang and sigh (no air) in the middle of a corner. At that speed, I nearly "kaked in my riding pant". but managed to not fall. On closer examination, my new rear wheel cracked along the rim, and the rim was so hot from the brakes on it, that I could not touch it at all for a while. Anyway, we changed tubes and rode home slowly......Only the drycleaners will know how scared I was.....oh, and to boot, when i got home I noticed a small nick in the sidewall of the front tyre, and when i touched it with my finger - that tyre burst...If the front one had gone, I would be writing this from hospital..
