I know that most of you will think I am a big Bullsh&**er, but let me assure you that it took one day exactly from the time I lodged my application for an Australian Passport (at our local Post Office / Australia Post) in The Gap 1:15pm in fact on Tuesday afternoon, till exactly the same time on Wednesday afternoon to receive a email to the effect that "Your passport is ready for collection at the passport office in Adelaide Street" (in the City).
CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT?? 1 Day, from submission of passport application, to delivery - now that's service and I am obviously knocked out by how some people complain about the Public service here being "slow" - sure I had to pay a small extra fee to get the priority service as I am traveling to Papua New Guinea again on Monday and realised that if I exit Australia on my South African passport I will not be able to get back in (due to the permanent residence visa expiring on being granted Citizenship) - which would have been a small problem....but all is solved now...
I am still shaking my head in disbelief.

1 day? When I arranged my sons SA passport from Abu Dhabi, we waited 8 months.
In Jordan they have a rule at the Home affairs. No one leaves untill the days applications is processed. You wait something like a few hours for you passport there.
