Some may remember my comments I made a few weeks ago on this Blog about South Africa and Mickey Arther claiming how great they were and how they were going to dominate world cricket for the next decade.....oh wait, I'll copy the artical here to remind you......In addition, the comments received were that I was winging because Australia had lost the No1 spot - which they have regained in the interim after thrashing the Poms 6/1 in the ODI series... Well the wheel turns very fast and it seems overnight ENGLAND bliksemed the Saffers in their own back yard in the ICC world Championships so they are OUT. In fact, beaten comprehensively by Sri Lanka a few days earlier, and only just managing to beat New Zealand is not too much to crow about. You will notice I have said nothing about Australia either, this is not about that, It's about South Africa thinking they are the top dogs and not being able to back it up with anything. Words are cheap arn't they.
Brave words indeed
WORLD cricket's new South African top dogs have vowed to create an Australian-style dynasty and prevent Ricky Ponting's men taking back the No.1 crown.
As Australia plunged to No.4 in the world after its miserable Ashes loss, new kingpins South Africa were plotting to establish a bold decade of dominance.
They have pledged they will not slip from the top of cricket's new pecking order.Australia had been officially or unofficially the world's No.1 Test side since Mark Taylor's team savoured an historic series win in the West Indies in 1995.
Now South Africa wants to become the new Australia.
"We would love to create that sort of aura and the sort of results that Australia had for so long," South African coach Mickey Arthur said.
My Comment: Brave words from South Africa. Mickey Arthur would do well to remember that when you go on record with such utterings, they come back to haunt you at some stage. Why not just accept that you are No 1 now and get on with it - you don't have to try and shout it from the roof tops so someone will take note of you. Cricketing people know exactly what the situation is in the test and one day rankings. Keep your head down as they say in cricket and everyone will be endeared to your efforts. In Australia they have the "tall poppy syndrome" and believe me when you want to go crowing about being the best, someone will come along and slap you down - the wheel turns full circle and sometimes very quickly.

Mickeys comment from YOUR article says " we would Love to" not we WILL!!!!!! There is nothing wrong with wishing! You are putting words you wish they had said into other peoples mouths. I remember you moaning about Roy needing to justify his move...... what are you doing?
Come on Dave you are trying in every possible way to run SA down.
Give it a break.
Cheers
your boet Graham
Gray,
Was it not you who gave me the lecture on how South African cricket and Rugby were on the rise and were going to dominate the stage as well? Did you not say Australia was a spent force after they lost all the older players in the squad?
It's funny, I always admired you ability to debate any subject, and remember you telling me to listen to what the person says, not how he says it (ie take the emotion out of the subject)
It's so strange that no matter what I say, comment on or post you always take the opposite tack. I did not mention Australia once in the comment, I did not support either team, I said - and this is the point, why not shut up and do it, instead of crowing about gaining No 1 status? Words do come back to bite you.
Same as the Semenya case, you asked me not to post items on this now, why, because it has been handled terribly in SA and there is a problem with her competing with women.
SO when I'm right, then I'm being unpatriotic to South Africa or running SA down - when I'm wrong I'm also just a dick? Same happens this side.
Let me make one last point, Roy long gave up trying to justify anything he realised that logic does not always get received in the same way depending on your perspective. Me I don't have to and never have tried to JUSTIFY why I came to Australia. I was looking down the barrel of a gun, stuffed up a load of things and was offered a good job in Australia. I came here to earn money, like I did in Saudi Arabia, only this time I could bring my family with me (and it did not cost us anything either) Australia is NOT utopia, there is a lot wrong here too, I lost two jobs here, but in the end we have followed the logical path and become Australians. Am I proud to be an Australian (it's growing on me daily) am I proud of being an ex South African (it deminishes every day). I don't have to justify anything to anyone to make me feel good or better than anyone else. I just live my life, have some opinions (maybe not the same as everyone else) and get on with things.
Love you tons
Dave
