Landing at Brisbane Airport on Sunday night, I wasn’t in my best form. Yawning, pale, and dressed in a slouchy maroon tracksuit, I was succumbing to the pain of playing three games of netball over three days in Canberra. Fighting drooping eyelids and fellow fatigued passengers, I followed the footsteps of my teammates to the baggage carousel where I was prepared for the dreaded process of watching the same bags make endless loops while my own remained mysteriously hidden.
Giggles greeted me as I shuffled towards my fellow maroon friends. Something was up, over 6-foot up. The South African Springboks had landed in town and as it happens, were waiting for luggage just like the rest of us. Handfuls of muscled green gods stood before us. I yearned for a slick of lip gloss, comb and spray of deodorant. Unfortunately I had none of the above and was resigned to admiring from afar while some of my more spirited teammates ignored the language barrier and welcomed the boys to Brisbane.
Are the Springboks the hottest male team going around? The seventeen females I was travelling with certainly thought so. Particularly when weighed up with the Wallabies who were also in the building, waiting only 20 metres on the other side of the carousel. Alliances were torn as we tossed up looks and patriotism but in the end the accent tipped the scales in favour of the tourists. Here’s your chance to have a say....who’s the hottest male team on the planet?
Meantime you can check out the Springboks and Wallabies in action this Saturday, 5 September at Suncorp Stadium.
