There has been a load of debate on the ability of this young Queensland Girl who is about to try and do an around the world non stop trip in her little boat. She is 16, and when she set off from Brisbane to sail to Sydney, she was hit by a 63000 ton Japanese cargo vessel the first night just off Morton Island. Ever since then, people are questioning her ability, her preparedness and her resolve to manage the trip. She was asleep and had not put her warning radar alarm on to warn her of ships in the area?
Some say her parents are sending her to a miserable end, others calling for the scrapping of the records where age is a factor - she would be the youngest ever to do the trip if she makes it.
Difficult one, but she is determined and sets sail from Sydney on the weekend. Would you allow your 16 year old daughter to do this? don't think I could.
